The beauty of Eastern images remind me of a day in my life. Parts of the day feel majestic and beautiful, while other simple moments are there to balance it all.

Wherever I go, I see colors even if there is only one dominant one. This one dominant color will bring out all of the others. What a profound source of inspiration!

Spending time in Egypt this last summer brought me closer to the past. The word ancient has a different meaning for me now. It doesn’t just mean something that happened many years ago, but something that happened thousands of years ago! It also made me wonder about the meaning of the word immortality. Did the Pyramids and the great Tombs make their kings immortal? Did the wealth and the art they collected in their tombs make them immortal? It definitely made their memory immortal. The natural colors that were used brought admiration and realization and the understanding that creativity is endless and that daring is the source of what is called wonder.

The profound story and journal pages of Dan Eldon inspired me in creating this spread in my journal. Dan Eldon was a war photographer who was killed at the age of 21 in Somalia. He was stoned to death by a Somalia mob. I was amazed to see how much he accomplished at such a young age. Where did his drive, his passion come from? I learned from his pages that his sensitivity and kindness were at the root of his his drive. Dan’s mother published his journal pages after his death. She asked him the question we hear over and over again: ‘why are you creating your art in a journal book? I want to hang your art on the wall.” When I first looked in his book ‘The journey is the Destination’ — I cried. Such beautiful and intense images, so real! So when I saw the Rhino in a magazine that is called ‘What is Enlightment’, I knew I had to use it in my Dan Eldon spread with the hope that Enlightment will bring light in dark places in the world.

I don’t know whether it was the beautiful blue color of the sky today or the intense blue color on my daughter’s wall that inspired me this time. Whatever the source, blue has been the expression. When I was a little girl I loved to read stories about Sheiks and Vazirs – characters from Arabian Nights. So much magic and mystery. The image I picked this time is Indian but it reminded me of the stories I used to like so much as a child.

Finally Here
My first post.
It seems like so long ago my long – time friend and mentor Orly
suggested that I will start my own blog. I followed Orly to
Journalfest where she was teaching a workshop and that’s where my love
affair with art journaling began.
This journal page was created in Guatemala where I recently went on a
journey with my two close friends who live in Israel.
It seems wherever I go the rose image follows me. Not because roses
are my favorite flowers, (they are not), but because I have a special
relationship with them. I do have to admit though that we grow
beautiful roses in our garden in Southern California. I love the
image, scent, and its energy.
Did you know that rose oil is the most expensive oil and that it takes
60,000 roses to make one ounce of oil?
